Every year hundreds of visitors come to Plentzia attracted by its beautiful estuary, its beautiful beach, its port and its picturesque old town.

Heritage

This village, founded in 1299, still preserves some of its cultural heritage. Its picturesque medieval old quarter is a superb combination of popular maritime architecture and more refined and palatial buildings.

However, many believe that the town’s landmark monument is the footbridge of Plentzia, an arch bridge that connects the Bilbao metro station to the town centre, inviting visitors to discover its seafaring heritage.

What to do

Plasentia de Butrón Museum

The Plasentia de Butrón Foundation founded the museum in 1988. It was located in the tower-house (dated 1562) where the former town hall had been placed, and it  aimed at recovering and exhibiting different elements of the history of Plentzia and its region.

Crusoe Treasure

Crusoe Treasure is a boutique winery of wines treasured at the bottom of the sea, as well as the world’s first artificial reef and cellar. It was founded by adventurers with a passion for wines who who aimed at creating unique premium wines with a distinctive touch.

Hiking

Plentzia is the start and end point for several routes. Routes are a perfect activity to do with family and friends, or even enjoy some time on your own. Put on your trekking shoes and discover the diverse landscapes of Uribe Kosta!

Surfing

Even though the beach of Plentzia is protected by the bay, a small wave takes shape at the mouth of the estuary.

Kayaking

The estuary is perfect for kayaking. There are several places along the estuary to start out at, so you can kayak up to the Isuskiza quarter or go even further, to the next pier.

SUP

The estuary is perfect for SUP (stand up paddling). There are several places along the estuary to start out at, so you can paddle up to the Isuskiza quarter or go even further, to the next pier.

Where to eat?

Gurea Grillhouse

Asador Gurea is a cozy grill house near the Metro station. Its inner décor is a homage to our ancient seafaring history. It stands out in char-grilled fish and  sardines are the crown jewel.

Bahía de Plentzia restaurant

The dishes offered by the Bahía restaurant are wholesome, prepared with great care and a homage to the flavours of our best local products. Located at Astillero square, it has three terraces and a balcony on the top floor overlooking the estuary. 

La Llama restaurant

A small, cozy tavern, one of the oldest in Plentzia. It offers traditional portions and dishes, including octopus and Padrón peppers, among many others.

Where to sleep?

Kaian hotel***

The Zaldua sisters have managed to convey their personal touch to this charming place located next to the port of Plentzia. In an accessible, young and fresh environment, it offers different spaces, some more formal, others more informal, some at nocturnal, others diurnal.

Arrarte guest house*

A small and cozy guest house in the town centre which offers visitors beautiful views of the estuary. It has a terraced restaurant by the same name on the ground floor.

Bahía de Plentzia Boutique Hotel**

Next to the estuary and the Town Hall, the Boutique Bahía Hotel offers rooms, apartments, a bar, a restaurant and an event hall.
