This Research Center for Marine Experimental Biology and Biotechnology is a non-legal entity institution founded by the University of the Basque Country (UPV / EHU).
The port of Plentzia was originally used for trading of merchandise, and subsequently for fishing. Today Plentzia is basically a port for non-fishing vessels.
