The beach of Plentzia is one of the most frequented stretches of sand on the Vizcaya coastline. It is found in a beautiful bay, next to the mouth of the estuary and very close to the town centre.
A seaside promenade borders this fine sand beach. Its quiet waters are ideal for families with children and people who wish to take part in water sports such as windsurfing, surfing, or paddle boating.
The beach is very well equipped. It has lifeguards and “hondartzainas” to help users, and has numerous services such as lavatories, showers, a PA system, water fountains, bicycle racks, foot baths, and bars. Next to one of the access points to the beach there is a children’s play area.
Next to the beach is an extensive pay car park, although parking is also available in the town, very close to the beach. Around the beach there are plenty of cafes and bars, along with a recreation area with tables, benches, and litter bins.
All of Biscay’s beaches are maintained according to strict environmental policies, and Plentzia Beach has earned the certification of the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme, also known as EMAS III, which embodies Europe’s most demanding conservation requirements.
